There’s a quote that inspired this portrait and this blog post:
“The trouble is, we think we have time.”
It’s a reminder that feels heavier the longer you sit with it.
This fine art portrait was created in my Charleston, South Carolina studio as part of a conceptual series about the passage of time. I envisioned a character who lives in quiet contemplation—holding time in his hands, while the clock looms behind him. Every detail, from his vintage clothing to the warm, moody lighting, was designed to evoke a feeling of reflection and urgency. Because that’s what time does: it moves, whether we’re ready or not.
I crafted this image using a combination of studio photography and painterly editing techniques. The backdrop was dark, dramatic, and minimalist—so that the emotion could come forward. His downward gaze, the pocket watch, the antique styling—it all tells the story of how easy it is to let the days slip by.
So I ask:
What are you putting off?
Is it a meaningful portrait with the people you love?
Is it finally stepping in front of the camera for a professional image that reflects who you are?
Is it creating something just for you, something artful and timeless?
As a Charleston studio photographer, I create heirloom-quality portraits that are more than just images—they’re stories, frozen in time. Whether you're looking for painterly fine art, branding portraits, or an emotional series like this one, I want to help you stop waiting and start remembering.
Because time is passing. Make the art. Take the photo. Be remembered.
